Cyber Cholita is a project by Chola Contravisual that brings documentary cinema, immersive experiences, and transfeminist and antiracist narratives to indigenous and dissident communities in the Southern Andes. It is born from a simple conviction: the stories that matter most deserve to be shared, discussed, and celebrated in community.
We gather around the fire, sharing canchita, cheese, and foods from our territories. From that everyday gesture, we transform the screening into a collective ritual where we exchange memories, reflections, and questions about the futures we wish to build.
Cyber Cholita is much more than an itinerant cinema. It articulates curation, cultural mediation, collective creation, and audiovisual technologies to generate spaces of encounter between communities that have historically been excluded from cultural circuits. In the long term, it seeks to strengthen networks and exchanges between different territories of the Andes.
Cyber Cholita does not seek to speak only to those who already share our struggles, but to build bridges with diverse communities, creating audiences that find in audiovisual work a tool for collective dialogue and reflection about our territories. More than an exhibition project, Cyber Cholita seeks to build audiences, strengthen networks, and drive a cinematic culture of our own in the Southern Andes.
We dream that this path will allow, in the future, the creation of increasingly expansive spaces of cinematic encounter between indigenous, dissident, and creative communities from different territories — where audiovisual work becomes a tool for imagining and inhabiting ancestral futures.
